Compression Wear Glossary

Clear definitions of key terms used across WaistSculpt's guides, product descriptions, and testing documentation. This glossary is maintained as part of our commitment to transparency and education.

Core Concepts

Foundational terms that appear across WaistSculpt product descriptions, testing documentation, and educational guides.

Core Compression Wear

A category of form-fitting garments designed to apply consistent pressure to the torso, core, and back. Compression wear is commonly used for temporary body contouring, thermal support during workouts, and may encourage awareness of upright positioning during daily wear. It is not a medical device and does not permanently reshape the body.

Core Compression Intensity Scale

An internal classification system used by WaistSculpt to describe three levels of compression: Light Compression (breathable fabrics for all-day wear and postural awareness), Moderate Compression (targeted elastic panels for torso smoothing and proprioceptive feedback), and Thermal Compression (neoprene-based heat-trapping design for high sweat output during short, intense sessions). This scale is derived from internal testing across neoprene, elastic-blend, and 3D-knit compression garments.

Core Proprioceptive Feedback

The sensory signal that makes a wearer aware of their body position. Proprioceptive feedback from compression garments—typically a gentle pull across the shoulders and back—may encourage awareness of upright sitting and standing posture without mechanically forcing the spine into alignment. This effect is temporary and lasts only while the garment is worn. It is a supportive tool for postural awareness, not a treatment for structural spinal conditions.

Core Thermal Compression

A type of compression that uses heat-trapping materials—primarily neoprene—to increase body temperature and sweat output during exercise. Thermal compression is designed for short-duration, high-intensity training sessions. It temporarily increases water weight loss through sweating, but does not cause permanent fat reduction. Hydration monitoring is recommended during use.

Core Elasticity Retention

A measure of how well a compression garment maintains its original compression level after repeated washing and extended use. Elasticity retention is evaluated through WaistSculpt's wash-and-retest protocol (WS-RM-WASH-01), documented on the How We Evaluate Fit & Comfort page, which tests garments after 0, 10, 20, and 30 wash cycles. Gradual elasticity reduction is normal; significant loss of compression indicates the garment should be replaced.

Core Water Weight

Temporary body weight lost through sweating during exercise or thermal training. Water weight reduction is a short-term effect of wearing heat-trapping garments such as sauna suits and neoprene waist trainers. It is not the same as fat loss, and the weight is regained once normal hydration levels are restored.

Product Types

The main categories of compression and training garments in the WaistSculpt catalog.

Product Compression Tank

A form-fitting upper body garment designed to smooth the torso, chest, and back. Compression tanks are commonly worn as base layers under dress shirts, suits, or casual clothing for temporary body contouring and postural awareness. Unlike waist trainers, they provide full-torso coverage with moderate, even pressure. They are not designed for heavy lifting support or maximum sweat activation.

Product Waist Trainer

A compression garment worn around the midsection to provide core compression, thermal activity, or back support during training and daily wear. Waist trainers are available in flexible compression, steel-boned, and neoprene thermal variants, each designed for different goals. They are fitness and posture aids, not medical devices. The slimming effect is temporary and lasts only while the garment is worn.

Product Sweat Vest / Sauna Suit

A neoprene-based thermal training garment designed to trap body heat and increase sweat output during exercise. Sweat vests are intended for short-duration, high-intensity cardio sessions. They temporarily reduce water weight through increased perspiration but do not cause permanent fat loss. They are not designed for all-day wear or for use under fitted clothing.

Product Posture Belt / Lumbar Support Belt

A compression belt designed to provide targeted support to the lower back during sitting, lifting, or daily activities. Posture belts may offer light lumbar reinforcement and proprioceptive feedback that may encourage awareness of upright positioning, but they are not medical-grade back braces and are not intended to treat or cure spinal conditions.

Testing & Evidence Terms

Identifiers and datasets used in WaistSculpt's internal testing and customer feedback analysis.

Evidence Test Record ID

A unique identifier assigned to each internal wear test conducted by WaistSculpt (format: WS-TST-YYYY-NNN). Test Record IDs allow specific test results to be referenced and traced across articles. Full test details for each ID are documented on the How We Evaluate Fit & Comfort page.

Evidence Research Protocol ID

A unique identifier for each standardized testing procedure used by WaistSculpt (format: WS-RM-CATEGORY-NN). Research Protocol IDs define the conditions, methods, and limitations of a specific type of test. Examples include WS-RM-THERMAL-01 (30-minute indoor cycling thermal test) and WS-RM-WASH-01 (wash-and-retest elasticity protocol).

Evidence Customer Support Dataset (WS-CS-2024-2026)

An internal collection of customer support records maintained between January 2024 and April 2026. This dataset is analyzed periodically to identify patterns in sizing questions, durability concerns, and user experiences. Findings from this dataset inform WaistSculpt's FAQ content, product guidance, and testing priorities.
